Frequently Asked Questions
Having questions before you reach out is normal. So is not knowing exactly what you're looking for yet. If something here doesn't fully answer your question, please reach out and send me a message.
Getting Started
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you're asking, that's usually a reasonable sign. The clients who get the most out of this work aren't necessarily in crisis. They have a sense that something isn't quite right, or that a pattern keeps showing up, or that they've been managing for a long time and they're tired of just managing. You don't have to know exactly what you're looking for. Figuring that out is part of what the first sessions are for.
What happens after I reach out?
I'll respond within one business day. From there, we'll set up a free 15-minute consultation call. That call is a chance to talk through what you're navigating, ask any questions you have, and get a sense of whether this feels like a good fit. No commitment required. If it's not the right fit for any reason, I'll tell you honestly and point you in a useful direction.
What should I expect from the first full session?
I'll ask questions, but we move at your own pace. Some people move at a full throttle pace, some a little slower. I work at your speed. By the end of the first session, you should have a clearer sense of how we'll work together and where we're headed.
Do I need a diagnosis or a specific reason to start therapy?
No. You don't need a diagnosis, a clear explanation of what's wrong, or a problem that meets some threshold of "serious" enough. If something isn't sitting right, that's enough of a reason to reach out.
Do you offer family sessions or parent coaching?
Yes. I offer family therapy sessions and parent coaching. Please reach out to me for further details.
What if I'm in crisis or need immediate help?
Mind and Method Consulting is an outpatient therapy practice and is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis or experiencing a mental health emergency, please reach out to one of the following resources immediately:
- 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
- Emergency services: Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room
This practice is best suited for individuals who are stable enough to engage in weekly outpatient therapy. If you're unsure whether outpatient therapy is the right level of care for what you're navigating, I can talk through that on the free consultation call.
Logistics
Frequently Asked Questions
How long are sessions?
The initial intake session runs 50 to 75 minutes. Sessions after that are typically 50 to 60 minutes, with the option to extend if the work calls for it.
How often will we meet?
Most clients start weekly. After the intake, I'll give you a recommendation based on what you're working on and what your schedule allows. Some clients move to every other week once things are more settled. Frequency is something we decide together and revisit as the work progresses.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. All sessions are virtual. I'm licensed in Indiana and Florida, and see clients across both states. Most clients find that working from their own space is more comfortable than they expected, and research consistently supports telehealth as effective for the concerns I work with.
What is your cancellation policy?
Any cancellations made within 24 hours are subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to the session fee.
Fees and Insurance
Frequently Asked Questions
What are your fees?
The initial intake session is $200. Individual sessions are $150 to $225 depending on the type of session and treatment provided. Speaking and consulting engagements are priced based on the scope of the project.
Do you accept insurance?
I'm a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. I'm happy to provide a superbill after each session, which you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. If you have a PPO plan, it's worth calling your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before we start. I can help you think through the right questions to ask.
Do you accept HSA or FSA cards?
Yes. I accept HSA and FSA cards, as well as credit cards and Venmo.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
In some limited cases, I offer sliding scale fees. Please reach out to see if you might qualify.
The Therapy Process
Frequently Asked Questions
What is your approach to therapy?
There's no single method I apply to every client. My approach is integrative, meaning I draw from cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-based, and psychodynamic frameworks depending on what's actually useful for the person in front of me. I'm also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), which informs how I work with clients navigating the effects of early experiences, chronic stress, and patterns that haven't responded to insight-based work alone. The goal is always depth with direction: understanding where something comes from and doing something with that understanding.
Is everything I say confidential?
There's no single method I apply to every client. My approach is integrative, meaning I draw from a multitude of modalities (e.g. cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, internal family systems, acceptance and commitment therapy) depending on what's actually useful for the person in front of me.
What if I don't know what to talk about?
It's perfectly normal to not know where to begin, I help guide the process along. And if you do have an idea, we can start there. I provide a level of structure that allows for movement but also stays on task to your desired goals that we establish together (so if you don't know those, thats okay too). Therapy can feel overwhelming at first, Im here to walk along side with you, to ease the thoughts surrounding it.
